What naturism is — and what it isn't
A plain-language introduction to social nudity in Aotearoa: values, boundaries and why it's about comfort, not spectacle.
By Kiwibares Editorial
Naturism is the practice of being comfortable without clothing in appropriate places, alongside others who share the same respect for the body, nature and each other.
Non-sexual by definition
Everything on this site is presented in that spirit. Naturism is not about display or attention — it's about ease, sun, water and community.
In New Zealand
New Zealand has no general law against nudity in public. Context matters: offensive or disorderly behaviour is still an offence, and local norms vary. Recognised clothing-optional beaches and established clubs are the easiest places to start.
Respect first
Ask before photographing anyone, keep a towel to sit on, and follow the norms of each venue.
